Sustainability

Sustainability is a central pillar in the planning of all our expansion projects at the Max Planck Society and here on the Max Planck Campus in Tübingen. With the help of its Climate Action Plan, the Max Planck Society aims to become climate neutral by 2035.

From the outset, the building structure is being developed specifically for the site based on DGNB criteria. The clear focus is on the environment, economic efficiency, and a scientifically productive working environment.

Our sustainability concept encompasses more than just ecological and financial criteria. Rather, it is an interplay of economic, ecological, technical, human, and process-related factors.

This includes, for example, the efficient use of resources and the safety and user-friendliness of future workplaces. Research buildings must be designed in such a way that they are sustainable in all aspects and remain so in the future.

We are also thinking ahead: we are already taking into account the later recycling of the materials used in the construction planning—for an environmentally friendly demolition perspective after many decades of building use.

A newly developed mobility concept will significantly reduce car traffic on campus. Employee parking spaces will be relocated to a central parking garage in the north of the “Obere Viehweide” technology park.
